SAGRADA FAMILIA
Where to start with UNESCO World Heritage Site…???
The SAGRADA FAMILIA is a Catholic church under construction in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, it is the tallest church in the world. On 7 November 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church and proclaimed it a basilica. Parts of the Sagrada Família (Nativity façade and Crypt) were declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, under “Works of Antoni Gaudí”.
Although it was still under construction when we re there, It finally was completed in 2026 when in February 20, 2026: Workers installed the final piece of the 17-meter-high steel and glass cross atop the central tower, bringing it to its full height.
The construction of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia reached a historic milestone on June 10, 2026, when the central Tower of Jesus Christ was officially inaugurated. This achievement made it the world’s tallest church at 172.5 meters (566 feet), coinciding with the 100-year anniversary of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death

I told you in the last post that today would make up for yesterday’s sight seeing and food blunders.
Here’s to more celebratory food and drinks with Tony and Ana. If you haven’t noticed, we just love them so much.
Nothing like have great weather to walk back together to the hotel even though it was crisp out.
ROOFTOP B'DAY CHAMPAGNE & FANCY DINNER
Once we got back to the hotel, we met up with Tony and ANa for another round of birthday celebrations as the hotel had left a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates in his room.
I cant help but smile and think of the reference to Forest Gump’s “life is like a box of chocolates…”
Any it’s closing night and a fancy dinner that was held at the historic Circulo Ecuestre.
And that’s a wrap on day 3’s activities. Tomorrow we will pack a light bag for travel as we head south to Alicante, Spain to meet up with some awesome people who will also become dear friends and they are Heidi and Thommy Brown.
