Part of our “Latergram ” series. This trip took place December 2024.
HOLA ALICANTE!
Today would be our last morning in Barcelona as we are heading south to warmer climates to spend about 36-48 hours with some of Leisa’s international connections she’s made over the years.
Its a first for both us and we re excited to new friends Heidi and Thommy Brown of Brown’s Real Estate in La Zenia, Spain.
We booked a later flight on Ryan Air and didn’t get to meet them until mid afternoon.
They picked us up from the airport and we spent the afternoon just driving around, sight seeing and getting a feel for the area and what’s possible here for anyone wanting to relocate.
Since we arrived later in the day, one of the first places they took us was to this iconic little beach bar called Chiringuito were we sat and relaxed for a little but had some refresher drinks and got to know each other and shared what our plans were regarding international real estate options for Leisa’s clients.
A chiringuito is a small, open-air seasonal beach bar or kiosk. The word originated from Cuba—where sugar cane workers filtered coffee through a stocking to make a drink called a chiringo—and was popularized in Spain in 1913 by journalist César González Ruano at a seaside stall in Sitges.
The climate was definitely warmer down here. La Zenia, sits about just a little over an hour from Barcelona by air.
Once we felt a little rested and after our afternoon espressos, we hopped back in their sprinter for a driving tour of the area to get a feel for the area and types of properties that are available here.
Tomorrow we will visit some more upscale type properties and golf courses.
FUN FACT: The city of Alicante has 2 golf courses within its municipal limits—Alicante Golf and El Plantío Golf. However, the broader province of Alicante along the Costa Blanca features 15 to 21 golf courses depending on the surrounding region included.
So if you are an avid golfer and looking to buy an investment property, this might be your place AND we have the right people to help you purchase a place over there.
They took us to some of their favorite spots and neighborhoods. The views were fantastic, I particularly enjoyed the well thought out paseos, or walkways where you could run, walk or bike.
Time to go check in to our AirBnb get a little rest before an evening out with our hosts.
Here is a beautiful sunset just outside our AirBnB Orihuela bungalow in La Zenia.
The constant breeze and the sound of the surf was so peaceful.
OUR BIG NIGHT OUT
After a full day so far, it was time to relax and enjoy an evening that we will never forget.
First we started off with some proper sangria made at a little bar our friends like to take people to. It called Rumours by GATSBY.
Rumours by GATSBY features a high-end, stylish interior design with a terrace overlooking the lively plaza. They offer a diverse menu featuring steaks, fresh seafood, Italian dishes (pastas, risottos, pizzas), and tapas alongside artisan cocktails. It also frequently hosts resident DJs and transitions into a vibrant late-night spot after dinner.
We were there at the early part of the evening because the dinner we would have later was going to be excellent
Both of us really enjoy a well made drink and fine bar ware. Our bartender was great and the sangria was legit. Well, not to get to buzzed on the good stuff we head over the Heidi and Thommy’s Brown’s Cocktail & Gastro Bar.
DINNER AT BROWN'S COCKTAIL & GASTRO BAR
Ok, wow! This was a dinner and night to remember.
If you find yourself in La Zenia, you need to spend an evening here.
Be sure to treat yourself at Brown’s – an exclusive cocktail and Gastro bar in La Zenia, where you can enjoy legendary dishes crafted with the freshest produce and sip on delicious cocktails and drinks made with expert care.
You’ll enjoy an intimate atmosphere with unique dining and mixology that you won’t find anywhere else! Come alone or with friends and enjoy an unforgettable experience at Brown’s!
Here are some images from our dinner there. It was definitely an experience worth going to. Thanks you two for such a memorable time there La Zenia and Alicante.
And that concludes our day here. Time to go rest up and get ready for a full day tomorrow when we will tour some luxury properties, golf courses and some more amazing local food.
