VIENNA-DAY 5

This trip took place June 2026.

There are pro’s and con’s to a later start to the day.

Yes, you get a a little more rest however I didn’t sleep well last night and was only up slightly later this morning compared to the previous morning’s.

7:30 comes quickly and I was getting restless and hungry. No bother, I’ll just head down to our hotel restaurant and see what looks good while Leis sleeps in a little more.

Yesterday was kind of scout day with options for things to do today. So we opted for a casual walk to the Museum Quarter to check out the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

As you can see the skies grew darker as we headed closer to the Museum. There were subtle hints of lightning but there were plenty of places to duck into in case we needed to ride out the storm but we made it to our destination no problem.

If this looks familiar, its not. This is the Hofburg Palace. It looks very similar to the image of the Neue Hofburg Palace with the large bronze horse rider statue

Well look who’s at these grand doors and about to check out the Canaletto & Bellotto exhibit.

This place is massive and take a couple of hours to roam and read. And we didn’t even get to see all of it because we got hungry.

We would have gotten a snack at the cafe inside the museum but there was a line and a wait to get a table so we opted to take the short walk over to Cafe Landtman.

I posted a lot of pix so you could get a sense of how large the exhibition rooms (salons) are. This was a really well curated exhibition with  art dating back the to 1500’s in just this top floor.

We did do a pretty quick tour of the ancient Roman era exhibit that featured a lot of classic Roman artifacts and marble sculptures but it was getting s bit warm and we were hungry.

In planning for this trip both of us had researched places we needed to stop at for some local flavor. While I hadalready been here yesterday, I saved trying the Kaiserschmarrn but first coffee!

In hindsight I should have bought some souveiner coffe cups because I think they are really cool.

So what the heck is  Kaiserschmarrn? Kaiserschmarrn is a fluffy, caramelized Austrian shredded pancake, often called “emperor’s mess,” made from a sweet batter with whipped egg whites, torn into bite-sized pieces, and served dusted with powdered sugar and a fruit compote like plum or apple sauce. It’s a popular dessert or light meal, known for its light, soufflé-like texture and messy, rustic appearance, which comes from being torn apart during cooking.

Inside they had a full assortment of the sweet treats that are featured in their dessert menu which makes it super convenient to grab and go if you are in a hurry or want to take some back to your work or home.

I highly recommend make this a snack stop when planning your day in the city.

Well, there is always a fancy dress up dinner and this is the first of two black tie events that we had to pack our dressy clothes for. And I think we look pretty sharp.

Tonight’s event was held at the Hofburg Palace in one of their historic halls.

I’ve said this before but it never gets old all the fun people I have meet through Leisa’s membership with the FIABCI organization.
